DISPERANZA - SOTHEBY'S

DISPERANZA. A neologism on the threshold between surrender and rebirth. The work moves through three urgent issues of our time — peace, the environment, and artificial intelligence — with a visual language that is essential and poetic. A white flag, worn and torn, sways among bare branches. It becomes an image of surrender in the face of the environmental crisis and the collapse of collective ideals. That fragile fabric opens a passage between vulnerability and possibility, between an ending and a new beginning. The knotted branches hold the memory of lost forests and speak of the instability of an exploited planet. In this fragmented landscape, the flag asks questions. It invites a necessary silence from which new words can emerge. Artificial intelligence enters this scene as a presence to be guided. Guided by a humanistic vision, it can become a concrete ally in preventing conflict, managing emergencies, and building more sustainable futures. Between despair and hope, the work opens a necessary pause to rethink the relationship between humanity, nature, and technology.
